George Maris

George Maris is Associate Professor of the Political Economy of International Relations at the University of the Aegean (Department of Mediterranean Studies). He has also been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Department of Politics and International Relations, Centre for International Studies (University of Oxford). At the University of the Aegean, he was a Special Research Associate (407) at the Department of Economics and Management Engineering. He is also a Research Associate at the School of Economics and Management of Neapolis University in Paphos, focusing on European political economy and economic governance. He also teaches in the MSc in International Relations and Politics and Mediterranean Studies at the Department of Political Science and International Relations (University of the Peloponnese). Finally, he was a University Scholar at the Department of Accounting and Finance at the TEI of Western Greece.

He holds a PhD in Political Economy of European Governance and EMU with distinction from the Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese. He also completed the MSc in European Studies at King's College London with distinction and the MSc in Mediterranean Political, Economic and International Relations at the University of the Aegean with distinction. He is a graduate of the Department of Public Administration of Panteion University. He specialises in public economics. He was a researcher in European and Foreign Policy at the Jean Monnet European Centre, University of Athens.

Most recently, he was the editor of the special issue of European Politics and Society entitled "Eurozone and the Greek Economic Crisis in 2020: current challenges and prospects" and of the special issue of Science and Society entitled "The Economic and Political Conditions of the Crisis in Greece. Contemporary challenges a decade later" of the journal Science and Society. His academic research focuses on political economy, political science, international relations and European studies.

His research and teaching interests include European political economy, economic governance, political economy, political science and European integration.
