Dr. Chrysovalantis (Valanis) Vasilakis is an Associate Professor of Economics and Data Analytics at Bangor University, with extensive experience in teaching and research in fields such as econometrics, finance, and artificial intelligence. He holds PhDs in Economics and Intelligent Systems, having studied at leading universities in Europe and the United Kingdom.
His research is particularly prolific and internationally recognized, with publications in leading academic journals such as the European Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Geography, Research Policy, the Journal of the Operational Research Society, and the European Journal of Operational Research. His research covers a wide range of topics, including economic development, inequality, migration, banking, and the application of machine learning to economic and financial data.
Particularly noteworthy is his award-winning work on predicting the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on supply chains and government decisions, which was honored with the EURO Award for the best methodological contribution. At the same time, he has developed innovative analytics applications in the field of sports, highlighting the interdisciplinary approach of his work.
He has supervised theses and research projects at universities in Greece, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, and the United States. In 2026, he was nominated by students for the “Teacher of the Year” award, confirming his commitment to supporting and mentoring students.
